We were busy last night...DM called to check and gave me a condescending "Really? How busy?" that quickly turned into "Holy crap!" when I gave him our sales for the past hour. Anyway, we were busy and my closers were working their butts off. When I finally got to give breaks, my cook ordered his food and headed out to the dining room. With the exception of breakfast, we take the food out to our customers' tables. We get them refills, condiments, etc. So, when the cook's order came up, I loaded it on a tray and took it out to him. On my way back, I got stopped by a regular customer and the following conversation took place:
Customer: Why do ya'll do that?
Me: I'm sorry? Why do we do what?
Customer: Don't that boy work here? Seems to me he could get his own food, rather than ya'll takin' it out to him.
Me: Well, he's on break, so he is off the clock and a customer. I bring his food out to him because that is what we do for all our customers. Off the clock, he's just like you.
Seriously....you want to complain about the fact that I'm actually letting my employee sit down on his break?
