I was working at Wal-Mart that season. *shudder* Those things were evil. We did accidentally discover one way to freak out customers and amuse ourselves with them, though. There were like, 6 to a case, I think, and they came with batteries. If you kick a case, they ALL start giggling and the box starts vibrating across the floor all by itself. Sounds like a box full of demonic creatures, and scared the crap out of more than one customer.

I would have loved to see that. I was working at another retail store that year, and the manager actually decided to give raffle tickets for people to be able to buy one of those toys. From what I remember, nobody ever complained when their number wasn't called, as they understood that it was only a raffle.

Sheesh, I remember when we were happy just to get a Big Wheels or a new movie for Christmas. On VHS, obviously, hehe. My Mom would usually put the bigger titles of the year on layaway for Christmas and we'd look forward to them for a very long time.

I don't have kids, but none of my nephews ever asked for the 'hot' toys, either. Or they were perfectly content to wait a few months for the insanity to die down and said item could be purchased right off the shelf, no fistfights needed, for 3/4 the price. Most of it's going to just be sitting in their closets in a while, anyways.

I watched DuckTales, but it wasn't one of my favorites. Some of the episodes downright creeped me out. (I'm thinking of the one where they all got trapped inside a computer program *shudder* ) and I never could get into Darkwing. I liked Gummi Bears a lot, too.

I liked DT, RR, GB, and especially Darkwing...TS I would watch if nothing else was on, but I always liked the lively intro music ~_~

Gummi Bears was awesome! I have a season of Duck Tales on DVD and it's held up remarkably well, unlike the Ninja Turtles. I would LOVE to get Gummi Bears on DVD.

Gummi Bears was awesome! I have a season of Duck Tales on DVD and it's held up remarkably well, unlike the Ninja Turtles.

The old Eastman & Laird TMNT comics (before being turned into a kid's show) hold up much better, but are fairly Not Safe for TV. Never really understood how someone looked at those and thought, "Great kids TV!"

I know it's because they think that we've got some sooper seekrit special line to the other locations, because that's the only thing that would explain customers who CALL me and want me to call other stores. Nope, but here's their number, Have at it!

Oh people do think that all the stores at the mall are connected. When I worked at Dillard's, I can't remember how many times customers would think that we could just pick up the phone, punch a button, and see if Foley's (at the complete opposite end of the mall) had such-and-such in stock. Or just flat out expected us to know what they had in stock. And then got mad because we couldn't.

I don't even want to know how some clearly not-kid-friendly things become children's cartoon shows. Besides the Ninja Turtles - which was originally a very dark comic laden with death and bloody injury (Raphael getting his face blown off, anyone?) - who the hell read Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and decided the creator should make a cartoon show?

Don't get me wrong, I love Invader Zim, but WHY would you think someone who happily draws comics about murder (which I also love) would make a good animator for a kids' show? Hey, let's make a cartoon show based off Saw and put it on Nickelodeon - cut out all the blood, violence, and any bad language and you'll have a great show for the kiddies. That's 30 seconds long.

Now I'm thinking about DuckTales...rather, the NES game. Man if I can get my NES to work, I might have to play it.

And I would have paid money to see the box of Elmos vibrating across the store. That visual is just too damn funny.

Don't forget The Mask! The movie was way less violent than the comics, and the cartoon was toned down quite a bit from the movie.

With the OT of Ducktales, My BIL and I once did a random experiment while waiting in line for a ride at Disneyland and shouted "DUCKTALES!". Nearly the entire line around us shouted back "Whoo! Oooo!"

With mucho editing and "creative" (read: stupid) dubbing; like the way that Cartoon Network made Naruto into a kid show. Example; editing out blood and violence, and dubbing over the original dubbing with what the Cartoon Network executives believe is more kid friendly dialogue.
