BG/ I work for a very large Painting contractor. This week, from Wednesday until today, we have about half of our crew in school to get their Lead Abatement licences renewed. /BG
We are doing a sand blasting and painting project for a contractor that involves blasting and painting 900' of pipe and hangers. They asked for a quote on Thursday and delivered the pipe last Friday afternoon. It normally takes 3 days to complete any sand blast and paint project. One bay for blasting and priming, 12 hours for the primer to cure, one day for the painting and a day to cure. That is if we have all materials in stock. In this case, we had the primer, but had to order the finish coat. The finish coat was to be here on Wednesday from the manufacturer. The General was informed that we had to order the finish coat.
He called here on Wednesday wanting to know if he could pick up the pipe and hangers. I told him that we were just now starting to apply the finish coat and if all went well the earliest we could have it picked up or shipped was today.
Yesterday, for 3 hours, he called here every 10 minutes to see if it was ready to pick up. Now remember, we are working on a bare bones crew. The person he needed to talk to was in the class. I told him that when I was called on break, that I would have the guy he needed call him each time he called. Finally after 3 hours I gave him the cell phone number of the guy that would have the information. He then proceded to call him every other minute until our guy left class to take the call.
This morning when the truck was about to be loaded, it was descovered that the paint was still tacky (probably due to the weather conditions) and the pipe could not be moved yet. I was called at a little before 8 and told that it could not be loaded. I told them that one of them needed to call the General Contractor and explain what was going on.
