Guy checks into the hotel. I run his CC. It declines.
Me: Do you have another form of payment? This CC was declined.
    SC: I have cash.
Me: Just to let you know, we require a $100 refunable deposit along with the money for the room and tax.

SC decides to cancel since he doesn't have enough. As he leaves, he decides to take a parting shot.

    SC: Thanks for fucking nothing!

I staggered a little. Surprising because the Speech skill tree doesn't have that perk. That perk is in Destruction. Maybe it was his shout.

    Me: (chearfully) You're welcome!

I'm not too bothered by this. If the guy wants to act like a dick in front of his gf, that's his problem. Like the old saying goes, just orange juice off a duck's back.

    1) He had to try to one up you. Failed though.

    2) Yay for Skyrim references.

He couldn't ask his lady to assist, instead of showing himself to be a douche? Pfeh.

I heard his CC used to be accepted until it took an arrow to the knee.

        Charming guy.

He doesn'thave enough funds to use his card and doesn't have enough funds to rent the room with cash, but he takes it out on you?

I hope the girlfriend was paying attention to how he acts.

I would. The key to understanding one's character is not how one treats their equals or their superiors, but how they treat their lessors. I'm not trying to imply that Mr. Hero is a "lessor" but the old saw is applicable here; Mr. Hero was in a service position to the SC. The sucky behavior is a red flag that this guy is of poor character.

Exactly. Someone who is nice to you but mean to the waiter is not a nice person. The real test of a person's character is when they have power over someone else, not when someone has power over them.

I've ran into this attitude quite a bit. They're douchebags until they realize the clerk has more power than they realize.
