  • EET DONT WORK (Amazon people make me cry)

    So, another Amazon story. YAY.

A couple of weeks ago, I listed a palm pilot of my husband's for super cheap on the Zon. So cheap, he was rather ticked at me for what I got, since it has a custom Rhino case on it that sells for the price I sold it for. Alone. Oops.

Anyways, so the customer promptly emails me afterwards all YAY THANK YOU FOR THE LOW PRICE, and I'm just cringing on the inside about this already.

Two days later I get a nice notice of "REFUND REQUESTED" and the buyer's comment on it is "dead, dead, DEAD!"

    I kid you not.

So, I promptly ask whats broken about it, as it was literally being used up until we shipped it. Buyer claims the battery is completely dead, and that upon arrival, it worked for 15 minutes, then died. And now she can't charge it at all, the dock doesn't work.

I respectfully replied that with the custom case, she needs to plug it in directly, as it blocks it from charging on the dock. Otherwise, take off the case, and plug in to dock. Whoopsie-doodle, right?

    She says nope, not working.

I say please take off the case, and just try it straight in the dock. Maybe the cord was damaged somehow. <shrugs> She tries. It supposedly fails.

She's fairly calm, thankfully, but constantly hammering home that

"the battery is dead, it has a faulty battery."

"you should've tested the battery, it doesn't hold a charge"

"its dead, dead. DEAD. i charged it and its not working"

Eventually, we're flummoxed. It worked PERFECTLY up until it made it into her hands. She states she will be mailing it back immediately, she wants her refund.

Now, mailing it back costs around $10. I then offer to purchase a new battery for her off Ebay. I figure why the heck no, its $5, free shipping, and will make her happy, save her on spending the $10 to mail it back, right?

Wrong. She flat out turns down the offer, claiming "obviously something is seriously wrong" with it, and that it won't even turn on for her now. We are deeply concerned, I mean, wtf happened to it in the three days of getting to her?!

Well, it finally gets back to me. Hubby makes sure everything's there, the serials match, and I send her the refund, and tell her I'm very sorry that its not working, that we're not sure what happened. She says she's just going to get a different one, that we should've tested it, blah blah. Okay, fine.

Now to test the darn thing and see what happened, right?

    It turned on immediately.

    And has stayed on.

    For two hours.

    And still hasn't died.

    Dead battery, riiiiiiiight.....

        A blessing in disguise lol

I would have filmed the unboxing and the "see if it works" check and sent her the footage XD.

I wonder why she changed her mind? She obviously knew she got a good deal on it, so why lie about the battery not working?

Or maybe she was just a complete moron and didn't know how to turn it on? Honestly, it seems plausible.

I was expecting her to have swapped the good battery for a bad one, but she didn't. I suspect buyer's remorse, or someone she lives with was not pleased she bought it.

I wonder if they flipped out on her and didn't believe the price she actually paid for it and made her return it. Oh well, you get to make more $ off it! Unless she ends-up buying it again....

I'd probably set it on fire before going through THAT again.

My wife has one of those Rhino cases for her old Palm that she now happily uses for her iPod touch. Lots of people are jealous of it. Even the guy at the Apple store was envious.

Or she somehow thought it was something along the lines of an iPod touch/some kind of tablet/insert something "new" here.

I'd also forward the video to amazon as well.

This did turn out to be a good thing because not only can you now re-sell it at the price your husband wanted it sold at, but can confirm that the battery lasted 4 hours in idle when last tested.

I'd write back to the lady thanking her for sending it back as you tested it to ensure the battery is working, but can also charge her a premium for it if she wants it again. I doubt she will, but it might teach her a lesson.

Sounds like someone didn't bother reading the item's description. Seems to happen quite a bit with electronic items. Years ago, my dad was selling off equipment from his ad agency. A lack of business meant that he was closing up shop. Anyway, he'd already sold off a pair of Xerox computers, printers, and was stuck with a 10-year-old Apple III.

You'd be surprised at the number of people who thought that the Apple was new, or at least some sort of PC-based computer. Quite a few people couldn't get that computers that old...did not have hard drives! Remember too that back in 1994, Apple was widely seen as a joke. Seriously, if that thing was new, wouldn't it have been listed at a higher price?

Despite its problems, the Apple III is somewhat of a collectible, hence the higher price that people would pay for seriously outdated junk.
