  • I think you failed a Spot Check

I have always been amazed how blind some customers are.

The "I don't see it", when there are 20 right in front of you.
    The "What sign? Where?"
The "I didn't see you" bumper cart driver.

    But yesterday takes the cake.

I have been doing pull up for WonderBread/Hostess as a side job. They have a small display of the $1 Hostess snacks at my local Wal Mart and it is right up front by the speedy checkouts.

As I am heading there to restock I can see it 15 feet away. A wad of ca$h,....on the floor,....in plain sight for everyone to see. People everywhere, all four speedy checkouts are open with lines. People coming in and out of the store, to and from the bakery.

And no one sees the wad of money.

As I walk up, I see someone left a cup of popcorn chicken on the rack and as I pick it up to "examine" it, I palm the money and put it in my coat. Later I see it was only 10 $1 and a $5. But still that's a few lunches, but I cannot fathom how no one else could see it.

Or for that matter, how do you lose it?

When I worked at Walmart, I once found a wad of $100s dropped on the floor in front of my register. Seeing as how it was so much money, I figured it was some kind of test (I was fairly new at the time) and turned it in. Guess I made WM that much richer

Not necessarily. Our WM will donate the money to charity if no one claims it. Now when I worked at Media Play however...

And I'm shocked that no one saw the money too. That is the one and only thing EVERYONE seems to see. Usually it's scooped up before the person losing said money gets two steps away. It's easy to lose a wad of money if it was stuffed into a pocket. Especially near the checkouts, where you might be pulling out your keys, ID, etc.

On the subject of "blind" people, I have a good story. The C-Store is getting new floors put in. The entire crew of employees, myself included, was in the store at 8 AM to clear and tear down shelves. As we're busy doing that, a woman wanders in, looking around as if she's lost. My manager quickly explained that we were closed. Thing is, there were five(!!) signs on our doors notifying people of the closing. Yes, we had the doors unlocked. We had to, as we were carrying stuff outside, and the construction guys needed them open as well. Still, that doesn't excuse someone completely not seeing or just plain ignoring five signs right in front of them!

They see them, they just ignore them.
I was cleaning a bathroom and not only had a sign stating to use the bathrooms at the other end, but had the cart with the cleaning supplies blocking the door and still had people asking and one old guy I had to throw out.

I can't remember the source of the quote, but I believe it's something along the lines of: "If someone sees a pile of money sitting out, they believe that it's being watched."

CW just picked up $60 that was just left sitting on an ATM at a local c-store. She told the cashier she was going to hold on to it for a week and if anyone was missing the money they could pick it up at [our motel next door]. The week's almost up.

Clerks was the movie you are quoting I believe. Dante is sitting on the floor behind the counter painting his GF's nails as they are talking about it. I love those movies

At least once a month while I'm out doing my shopping I'll see money/phones laying out, or people dropping money right in front of me.

I always chase them down/give it back/turn in to lost and found, but really people? I'm a bit scatterbrained at times, but I manage to wrangle all my stuff plus 2 kids and a hubby and not lose anything.

My store's policy seems to be: the money is kept in the safe (labeled) for x amount of days. If it's not claimed the person that found it gets it.
                    I got $20 that way.

ABout signage: I called my drugstore on New Years day and the recording said the pharmacy would be open at 10. I go to the store, see a sign on the door about a new policy starting on Jan 1 (it might have been about new hours). Also on the door is the week's ad, and the usual alcohol signage (state laws about "not drinking alcohol in the parking lot," etc.) So many signs, I thought I saw them all. I get to the pharmacy and see it's closed. I asked the manager about that and he gets emotional, "I have a sign on the door saying the pharmacy is closed today!" I go out and see that sign after hunting for it, since ads, another sign about new policy, etc was on the door. I wished he didn't get all emotional on me; he was almost yelling.

One time at a local Krogers I paid with cash at the self-service then counting back my cash I realized I had too much change. I gave the excess to the cashier, saying I found it at x station. I was thinking of the person who would be happy to get their change when the realized they forgot their chagne. Of course, weeks latter, I pay with cash and 1/2 way home I realized I didn't get my change and went back. No more then 5 min after leaving the store. I go back and of course the cashier knew nothing about the change. Reverse Karma I guess

                        Oh and for those wondering about the title, I found the comic;

And if you are a fan of Order of the Stick, they are doing a Kickstarter to get the books back into print. So far they have only raised just over three quarters of a million dollars.

I found a 100 dollar bill on the way to the Skytrain station. It was just sitting on the ground. Now for no one else to see that at a busy transit station was my luck.

They do have ethics tests like that. happens from time to time. I know someone who failed the test. The money was planted by lp. They lost their job later that day.

They probably were a wizard with a sub-school specialization of "stupid" and put all their skill points in appraise and knowledge(Chicken). No spot checks for them.

I digress, At our booth people lose change inbetween our skittles display a lot and by the end of the night we're cleaning up $2 + sometimes. It's a nice tip, but you gotta ask yourself how blind people are, or how apathetic they are.
