  • Can't Argue With Rock-Solid Logic Like This!

-Did you tow my car from Imaginationland Apartments?
-Green BMW with Maryland tags? Yes, we have that vehicle, it will be $115 to pick up.
    -I'M NOT PAYING YOU ANYTHING!
-Then you won't be getting the car back
    ....
    ....
    ....

-But, why did I get towed?
-You were called in by the person who checks that lot for not having a permit. All cars that park on that property must have a permit from the apartment complex, if they don't, they can be towed.
    -But I didn't call anyone!
-No, you didn't Sir, you were called in by the person who checks that lot
-There's no person who checks this lot!
-Yes there is, and they called your car in to us for not having a permit.
-NO! THERE IS NO PERSON WHO CHECKS THIS LOT!
-Uh, Yes there is, otherwise, we wouldn't have towed yo....
-SHUT UP! I'm not talking to you anymore!!!

    *click*

    Gladly....

Didn't the almighty Gord once have something to say about people who have thought trains like this? The kind who would tell him he couldn't report them to collections, even though he already had? Isn't the fact we have your car proof enough that someone called you in? Why oh why do some people like this insist on playing the game of life on the "AI-is-blatantly-cheating" difficulty?

I seriously wonder what kind of mentality thinks "I'm not paying what's required" is a successful argument. 2 days in a row I've had people tell me they don't have the money to buy the ticket they've asked for, both have miraculously found said missing money when faced with the reality that I'm not just going to let them off (not sure if they wanted the difference or the whole thing knocked off, it's hard to tell with some people...)

Yeah, except I'm looking at some fair compelling evidence says they do.

Fantasized response: Incorrect. Your car was towed. Ergo, someone checked the lot. Q.E.D.

No! These are not the droids you're looking for. You will not tow my car. Nobody checks this lot...

Hmm.....is it a nice BMW or an old beat up one? Cuz for $115 it'd be worth the trip to come pay for it myself and walk away with a BMW for cheap!

Yeah yeah i know.....doesn't work that way.....but we can pretend.

My favorite circular logic argument when it comes to towing went like this: a friend stayed overnight at Other Friend's house. Said lot was signed against people without permits. Friend's car, unsurprisingly, was towed. Friend whined and complained to me when he saw me, two days later, after liberating said vehicle.

Them: "... And when I called them they actually wanted MONEY to let me pick up MY CAR that they TOWED without permission! Can you believe that?!"
Me: "I'm curious, how did you know which tow company to call? There's like three in this area."
Them: "Oh, I got it off the sign."
Me: "You mean the sign that says 'Permit required, violators will be towed by So and So company?'"
                  Them: "Yeah, so?"
                  Me: *facepalm*

At the 30 day mark, if the owner has not paid, the DMV is contacted and a certified letter is sent to the last registered address informing them that we have the car and what the total fee is to release it. If they're polite and respond quickly we usually give them the option to settle all fees for usually 75% of what's owed, it's up to the towing manager's discretion if he wants to knock a little off the top.

If they cannot/will not pay up at that point, or cannot be located, the vehicle is declared abandoned, the DMV re-issues a title with us as the owner, upon receipt, the car is either sold through the want pages in the newspaper if it still runs or for scrap to the local junkyard and the junk man comes and tows it away if it's a clunker.
