Yesterday a guy called:
sc: I was trying to place this book on hold, but your site won't let me do it.
me: ok, I'll see what the problem was. It could be an item that is missing, so it won't allow you to place a hold. What is the title?
sc: the author is i-m-blah-blah-blah, last name m-e-blah-blah.
me: ok the title please.
sc: immigrant law.
me: *looks* I don't see the title, can you give me the author's last name again.
sc: H-U-S-A-I-N.
me: uh, I thought the author's last name ended with an "M".
sc: what?
me: YOu were spelling the authors last name with an "M".
sc: ok, let me look this up again on Amazon.com.
me: ok
sc: look for a book title Greencard for Dummies.
me: ok *looks* I found it. Now what you do is click on the brown button that says "hold".
sc: I don't see that on Amazon.com
me: (you are on Amazon and are trying to place a hold on it for our library?) You have to do that on our site. Our web address is blahlibrary.org.
sc: ok,
me: and click on catalog, then click on the title.
sc: ok I see the hold button. could you place this on hold for me?
me alright, your last name?
sc: H-U-S-A-I-N.
me: (you fucking fucktard, you were spelling you name to me earlier when I asked you to repeat the author's last name? fucktard, but not as fucking stupid as trying to order a book through amazon to get it from our library) ok your card no?
sc: xxx xxx xxx xxxx
me: ok, it's on hold for you.
sc: can you put another book on hold for me?
me: sorry, I have to go to the next call, please call back.
Then another person called, with a title Abdair, footprints in America, by Yvette Glower. but she didnt' know how to spell "Abdair" and she then kept on changing how she pronounced the last name -at times it was Clower. I couldn't find the book even in Worldcat and she kept on going on about how someone in another city library gave her the title. I told her to call that librarian back and she tells me he retired. Then she wanted me to go to that library's website to find it. I did and told her I couldnt' find it
