This happened yesterday.
B/G: I currently work in the Corporate Security Dept of XXX Bank. My job is to monitor any and all alarm systems we have for our many banking centers and respond to any and all alarms. If we receive alarms signifying a bank robbery, we have a procedure that all XXX Bank employees are trained on, supposedly. Whenever these procedures are enacted, 9 times out of 10 the bank employees screw it up somehow, its frustrating but managable. . . and then there was this genius.
Alarm goes off, I enact the procedure (sorry, can't say what it is)
Bank Employee: (opening spiel)
Me: Hello, (enact procedure)
BE: (gives response signifying not only a robbery, but A ROBBERY STILL TAKING PLACE)
Me: alerts my co workers and we begin dispatching police, FBI, and alerting XXX bank higher ups
Me: All right maam, now first thing I need to know, can you speak to me right now without endangering yourself or anyone else there?
BE: ummmm, yeah. . . of course.
Me: (now confused) Okay, well good, can you give me a description of the suspects?
BE: Suspects?
Me: (now suddenly painfully aware this woman probably has just screwed up royally) Maam, is everything okay there? Are you being robbed?
BE: What!? no, no, no, why would you think that??
Me: Because according to the (XXX procedure) you just told me you were.
BE: laughs (yes, she laughed) I'm sorry I thought that meant we were fine!
Me: (facepalm, and tells my co workers to stand down) All right maam, that's great, may I speak to your branch manager please?
BE: Oh that's me!
Me:
really?
BE: yep! 5 years now
Now, as annoying as it is, I can somewhat understand regular employees not remembering this procedure to the T, its not like they have to deal with it very often so when they screw it up I can forgive them, sort of. But a BANKING CENTER MANAGER!? You are in charge there! YOU I will not forgive, it's part of your job to AT LEAST know this and in a perfect world, make sure your people stay trained on it, because if a real robbery occurs, they need to know what to do or people can be hurt, or god forbid, killed.
Me: ok then. . . (I then proceed to politley but curtly, explain the procedure to this manager and emphasize that this cannot happen again. If it does, I will have no choice but to involve her District Manager, who will "retrain" Bank Manager and her entire staff and that's going to make Bank Manager look REALLY bad.
Me: Is that what you want?
BE: (no longer thinking this is funny) no sir.
Me: All right then, Im glad everything there is all right now, you have a good day now.
