If you expect me to serve you boozeahol, I expect you to carry proper ID for that purpose, just like every other place on the planet that serves the stuff...

Only amusement/water-park friendly solution to that I can think of is to have the ticket-takers require ID, and give anyone who is of legal age a different-colored wristband from what the younger people get. Of course, this only works if they don't swap wristbands, and we know teenagers who want booze would never stoop to dishonesty like that, just to get their fix...

Secondly, I thought Brittish laws had some old timey left over that allowed parents to buy for children if they were present. Maybe the QI elves were wrong.

I believe for careful use at home it is allowed but not in public licensed premises.

I had a horrible moment when I was working at the supermarket. I couldn't quite bring myself to ID a colleague who did look 20ish - the only thing I could rely on was that I'd seen her selling alcohol to customers without shouting out to a colleague for the ID (the way most places around here allow 17 and younger to do tills).

I still wonder though. Luckily I never got picked up on it... Stupid in retrospect - I should have just ID'd her.

Pfff. I I.D.'d a co-worker once. From then on people would poke fun at me about it. In a friendly way, of course.

Had a row once with a woman who came to my till, put her shopping down, then as I started ringing it through two young girls came up as well caryring two bottles of a kind of alcopop thing that we sell.
The woman asked the girls - right in front of me - "You got what you wanted?"
One of the girls said "Yes, this is the one we like best". So the woman takes it and puts it on the counter and says "This as well, please."
Of course, I ask for the girls' ID. They have none. The woman says "But I'm buying it!"
Here we go again..... "Yes but I know that you're buying it for them. Can't sell it."

primarily Trading Standards, actually. As you might expect from the name, Trading Standards are in charge of keeping businesses honest. (I am related to a retired TSO, so know a bit about what they do.)

I'm sure they did. Alcohol is a pretty big cash cow and no one wants to lose their license to sell it much less have to pay a fine.

In Salem all pubs and bars have a whistleblower policy whereby you will be banned from all pubs if you cause a problem at just one of them.
