The owner was livid; he actually said he is considering telling them to go f*ck themselves and find somewhere else to have their wedding. On the one hand that seems like absolute, perfect karma to me: You want to act like a f*cking *sshole to someone who has done nothing but try and give you good service?? Well, here are some consequences. Choke on them.

But, I would feel guilty about the families and the bride having to scramble for somewhere new to get married.
Don't feel guilty; if it does happen, it'll only be what this asshole deserves. I'd love to hear how he spins the hotel's refusal to his bride and her family . . .

Welcome to the boards! OMG...3 jobs! Damn that's gotta be burnout central for sure! You need and deserve the drinks more than the SC's do.
Forget the drinks; you need a vacation!

Burnout Central is right. No amount of money is worth that much stress. Take care of yourself.

Welcome, Lizard Queen! First, I hope your boss DOES tell James Bond & his poor fiance to take a hike. It would be his fault, so you would have nothing to feel sorry for. Second....three jobs? Holy sh...wow! As others have said, there is nothing worth that amount of energy and stress! Hell, I get worn out just from the one that I have!

what an absolute ass-clown. I wouldn't feel sorry for the friends/family if I were you, given what he is as an example... Gah, hope you do get a vacation soon. Sounds like you need it!

For that much I could buy a couple cases of beer.
Yes, but why? Sorry, I have no tolerance for bottled/canned horse piss.

(Go ahead and give me grief for liking liquefied peat smoke. I don't mind. )

Ok, $25 is a bit high for a shot, but for a hotel bar? Eh, not unexpected. Think of it this way. If you look around online, you can find 18 year old single malt for anywhere from $65 to $200 a bottle. For the sake of argument, let's go with $100 as a good median.

A 750ml bottle can get around 20 1 1/4 oz shots out of it. So a $100 bottle would be about $5 per shot, IF they bought the bottle at a liquor store. Get normal bar markup, and I can see it going for a lot more. 5x markup? My guess is the scotch he ordered was a good bit pricier than $100 a bottle.

Moral of the story: If you're going to fake being a snob, at least try to be intelligent about it. Otherwise stick to Miller Lite.

I don't know. At $25, that sounds like a very nice "Sipping Scotch". On one of my husband's birthdays at a nice restaurant I ordered my husband a "very prestigious" $40 glass of Bourbon. He said the flavor was worth it.

And after hearing about your interaction with the Suck-o-Scotch, I'm feeling very sorry for the special events staff.

Yep, things are definitely more expensive in a hotel lounge, and this particular scotch is pretty pricey to begin with. I have been told it's worth it to those who know about these things, but I'm more of a beer girl!
You guys are so right, Mr. big Shot was waaaay too cool to actually ask the price, so he got what he deserved. I personally would never drink in our lounge, even with the employee discount, because it's a bit over priced.

Last night I had two women come in right while I was trying to close and order 2 glasses of wine (after they literally snarled at me that I should stay open because I was turning away business. Because, yes, the 1 dollar tip you give me on 16$ worth of wine is definitely worth me keeping the entire lounge open another 2 hours. Who needs sleep? Or a home life???

After I gave them their drinks I printed out their bill and handed it to them and one of them looks inside and immediately stars bitching about the price. For heavens sake it's 8$ for a glass of wine, I don't actually think that's too outrageous.

Honestly, why do SC's feel the need to tear us apart when they don't like the price of something? And seriously....if it's a huge concern for you, ASK how much it is! I have no problem telling you the prices and in fact they are right in front of you on our wine list. So quit acting like I'm personally responsible for this.

You guys are right, I need a vacation!

Thanks so much for your kind words and concern; I posted a bit more detail in the "Advice Sought and Offered thread" about why the need for 3 jobs, but the short version is just that I have had a very tough year in a lot of ways and I was spending every night awake and obsessing about money, so I figured I may as well do something productive about it. So now, when I get no sleep at all it's for a reason

Then it gets even worse. He holds his hand out and says 'Give me back the tip I gave you".

I was gobsmacked. I handed him back his measly 2 dollars and he stomps off, secure in the knowledge that he has acted like a giant f*cking cry baby jack *ss but made himself feel a little bit powerful.
I suspect that on his next visits to the bar during his stay for the wedding he received less than stellar service.

So I spoke to my immediate boss today, who is the guy I work 99% of my shifts with and he spoke to the owner this morning and mentioned the d-bag from last night.

I am definitely not looking forward to that wedding, as we will get some overflow from their guests and I am thinking a lot of them will be SC's.
I was wondering, did the owner tell the Groomzilla to kick rocks yet? I'd feel sorry for bride and the guests but not for her stingy douchebag fiance.

$25 for a shot of scotch? I wonder what the poor people are doing.

For that much I could buy a couple cases of beer.
My office had a luncheon recently at a TexMex place with the same name as a car We were bored and actually started reading the drink menu. They have some shots of tequila that are $60 and up. I think the most expensive one was in the $90-100 range. One of the guys asked the server if she had ever seen anyone order one of those. She said she heard about someone ordering one once.

That had better be some damn good tequila. I agree with Aria - it all tastes the same to me... although how do you know what weasel piss tastes like?
Smile, or I'll smack you silly!

25 dollars for scotch... it makes me wonder what I'm missing. To me, all hard liquor tastes like weasel piss. Unless it's in my apple pie.
The younger scotches do taste a little nasty to me, but I've found that the older ones are a bit more mellow.

                            to, Lizard Queen.
                            Quite a first post.
Story #1 who didn't know her name or room number. She sounded like a possible scammer to me. How else could one not have any idea of the room number?

                            Story #2.
I sure hope your GM does end up banning groomzilla. SC often run in the family.
As for his bar tab...as hotels often mark up the hootch, I'm not sure I would want to drink $5 scotch--though it would be probably be a good paint remover.

LQ, you do need a vacay--three jobs is major burnout waiting to happen (assuming it hasn't already). I manage two but then one is seasonal.
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

Having a penchant for pricey irish whiskey, $25 for a glass of 18 year old at a bar is well in line with "normal" considering how much some of that stuff goes for by the bottle.

I have a $150 bottle sitting in my cabinet right now... (Midleton Very Rare)
The Macallan 18 year runs ~$160/bottle at the stores in my state.

there are around 16 1.5 oz "shots" in a standard 750ml bottle.
so, 10 bucks a shot would just barely cover the cost of the booze. $5 for a beer is common... and budweiser runs less than a dollar a bottle at most grocery stores.
dude should be glad he didn't get hit up for $50 each for those drinks.

I don't know why that guy was that surprised. Anytime I looked at the good stuff in a bar, it came out to a dollar a year. So while $25 does seem a bit much for an 18 year, it's not entirely unexpected. I'll just stick to buying the bottles myself.
