You tried to bring WHAT into a casino??

The casino I work at had an incident several months ago where a woman had attempted to bring her 6 month old infant on to the gaming floor, concealed in a blanket, apparently because she just HAD to gamble and couldn't find a babysitter.



But it's ok folks, as you can see she "attempted" to sneak the kid in. Security was on the ball though and sent her packing.

Because nothing is as soothing for babies as the bells and whistles and drunk hoots at a casino.

This reminds me of a story my friend - who worked at a casino - told me one time, and it depressed her. Apparently, the local Asian culture had integrated this new, fascinating way to go to the casino. They'd bring the ENTIRE family, including kids, and just leave the kids with one or two adults at a non-casino floor restaurant or shop and the rest would go gambling for hours. Then the gambling adults would come back and switch places with the babysitters.

The poor kids would be there, doing homework on the floor/amusing themselves, for hours.

Eventually it caused the casino to change their policy and told security to call CPS if they saw this occurring again on property.

I sort of understand a person bringing in a baby to a casino; at least the baby isn't locked in the car. I just don't understand when people bring their pets. Like a Chihuahua in a purse. The dog can stay home. Who gives a shit if it's a lucky charm; just bring a picture of Poochie.

Yep, they've arrested people several time at the casinos near here because they left their kids alone at their hotel while they were at the casino, and somebody figured out the kids were alone. We're talking 2 year olds, IIRC.

As far as bringing an infant into a casino, I wonder what the effects would be on a baby, being exposed to the horrible droning/buzzing the machines make? At least that's what I found the only 2 times I went into one (once to use an ATM and once to use a restroom).

Young babies quite like white noise, so maybe they'd be ok with it? I guess you'd know pretty fast if they weren't - and adding crying to the noise level wouldn't help! The amount of people around could freak any kid out as well.

Mind you, I've seen a baby in a pushchair, fast asleep, being pushed around a funfair in full swing, at about 9 p.m. I guess she was so tired she was going to go nap no matter what was going on.

Although ... if the machines are noisy enough to cause hearing damage, that would then apply to the adults there as well.

not saying they should start letting babies in of course - i like the idea of adult-only establishments. just not sure if it's a hearing-damage environment exactly.

Eta: does anyone else remember the Vegas episode of full house? Everybody learned a lesson about gambling, iirc.

I would assume some do, but the people who bring their kids into the casino obviously don't want to shell out cash for a sitter/service because that's less money to gamble.

I know gambling is an addiction but give me a break. Maternal instincts should overpower any other urges that you are feeling. Some people just need to be euthenized.

In theory it should, but after reading that news article about the gamers in South Korea who allowed their own child to die of neglect while they were playing an online game where they had a virtual child...

i know plenty of gamers in the US who put gaming above responsibility. I know of guilds back when I played EQ who wanted their raids to come first in people's lives and acted as if you weren't good enough if you didn't follow their priorities.

That still exists today, in a lot of MMO's. WoW had a lot of guilds like that. Which is why in both guilds I was in (one of which I created and lead) the very first rules was "Real Life > Game; We understand if something comes up." Anytime someone tried to start drama about someone not showing up for a raid or event for whatever reason it would be that person who was warned and punished.

I got a lot of compliments from people coming from those "hard-core" raiding guilds that they had way more fun in my guild and at my raids. I am not surprised.

Gah. I'm beginning to appreciate my online addiction more and more-- it may be a lot smaller than the big games, but at least most of the people are very laid back in it. Come to think of it, some of that is by design: after a couple hours, the game itself will give you a message indicating that you've been playing for a long time, and maybe a break is in order.
