  • You can't get your ciggs at a non-cigg register

From time to time I get customers who want to bring ciggs up to my register not realizing that you MUST get your ciggs at register 17. Oh, we could TRY to ring them up but it won't work as every register EXCEPT 17 isn't programmed for cigg products.
They ask me..."Why do I have to get into another line just for ciggs?"
    I say..."It's our policy"
They say..."It's stupid making someone go into 2 different registers."
I wanted to say..."Well, gee, it must suck to be you then." But I thought I'd better not say that...lol.
& why does it seem that a lot of times I get put in the ciggs register when I don't even smoke? That's like having someone work at a booze store & they don't drink.

Two different lanes? Nope. You can check out with your groceries at register 17, AND get your f*cking smokes there in one trip!

ahhh but that is the logical thing to do and SC's can't process what is the logical thing to do.

So glad I never had to sell cigarettes or booze...only thing I've ever had to card for is Playboy and Penthouse, and most people young enough to get carded are too to ask for 'em at the register, especially from a pretty little thing like me :bats eyelashes:

We have 2 registers to buy ciggs, one is in our express lane where you can buy groceries aswell and the other is at the cigg kiosk.

We will get slamed in express and get some moron who has walked up to the smoke counter and start banging on it and demand service RIGHT NOW They've been there 2 seconds and people in express have been waiting longer.

I would rather serve people who are buying more important things like food than cancer sticks. People would ask me to take off baby formula so they have enough money for smokes

Oh these clowns. i always love how they theough a hisy fit over having to go to 2 different registers even though when we only have opne cig. lane open it's the one that has no resriction on the # of things you buy. One is an express and has a 12 item or less sign. But yeah, it would piss me off when people wouid throw these trantrums, it's especially painful if you neighbor the cig. registers.

Where I work, we don't have designated cigarette registers. If a customer wants cigarettes, they have to go to the service desk to get them and they can either pay for them at the service desk or go through one of the checkout lines with the rest of their groceries.

That reminds me of a legend and a half from my personal time in retail - the beginnings of Moron Boy!

He was - and probably is - possibly the most intentionally dumb person I have ever met.

Bug me to tell you about him.

Sorry to get on the soapbox here, but if ANYTHING should be taken off so that a cutomer can afford ciggs instead, it should be pop, chips, cookies, or booze.....NOT baby formula. People like that are pathetic and disgusting.

I was going to post something about this, but you beat me to it. We had a man come up and ask us to bring him some smokes down to one of the express lane and when I told him the we only sold them on two registers and the others simply won't allow the sales, he started to rage about how he was a 100% disabled war vet and we had to sell them to him on these registers because there was no way he could ever walk that far. I offered to get him a drivable cart, but he wouldn't hear of that, either. He was using a cane, by the way. So I had my CSM come over and she told him exactly what I told him, right down to the cart. He yelled that he wasn't using a damn cart and we needed to change this policy because he was a 100% disabled war vet and stormed into McDonalds, then stormed out to his car.

My CSM looked at me and said, "I see him in here all the time walking around with his wife. There is no way he couldn't have walked down there."

I think she was just saying that it's easier for a smoker to sell ciggs, and easier for someone who drinks to be a bartender or work in a liquor store, because you are familiar with what you're selling/making.
