I get dispatched on a internet order to a nearby hotel.

Now normally this hotel does not let us go past the lobby desk. We are required to call the room when we arrive and the customer has to go to the lobby desk to pick up their order.


I arrive and call the room to alert the customer their order is at the desk. NO answer

wait a few minutes. call again. again NO answer

wait a few more minutes. Call again NO ANSWER.

I ask the desk to call the room. They get NO ANSWER

I see there was a cell phone used to place the order on the internet. I call that number. A man answers and I explain the situation. and he says:

"OH I am right over at the bar (50 feet away). I will be right over."

EVEN if we were allowed to go directly to the room, you would think the customer would use some of their brain to realise that THEY DO INDEED need to be in the room when the order arrives. NOT someplace else.

at least he gave me a very decent tip.

There has to be a rule about after so much trying to make contact, you take hte order back with you and too bad so sad for the stupid customer. There has to be. It would serve people the idjit there right, really. You know you ordered a damn pizza. If you actually, I don't know, WANT the damn thing...WAIT FOR IT!

Yeah color me weird but if I order a pizza (and I still find it so awesome I can do it online ) I try to be ready and available the thing shows up.

the company i use to order from at my previous apt i had a note that read "knock on right door" cos there were 3 doors to pick from - the apt to the left, the door leading to the storage lockers, and my apt on the right.

and half the time i'd come down the stairs to meet them anyway, especially if I was very hungry or didn't feel like making them walk all the way up

My brother is a delivery driver and he has told me that when they can't find the person who ordered, they have to bring the pizza back and toss it! Then almost every time they get an angry phone call wondering what is taking so long, so they have to make another one and send it back out. Usually results in an SC and no tip for the driver, who did nothing wrong. That the same with you?

You would think they could be kept in a cooler to be given to a shelter or something to be reheated, or at least set out for employees to get a free snack.

I definitely have moral issues with throwing out perfectly good food.

Unforutnately, once it's gone out and come back, it's a liability issue to send it back out, and you can't give it to the employees, because there are a few out there who would take advantage of it.

Then you're not like the people who take their baby for walkies the second you hang up. Or head to the grocery store...or, when given a 45-minute delivery time, jump in the shower at the 36-minute mark with nobody else in the house....

Yes, I have experienced each of these.

I once got a twofer -- They took the baby for walkies AND left somebody at home. Ordinarily, this would be fine. It's just that the person left behind was their teenage son whom they already KNEW was in a "I do NOT answer the door or the phone...EVER!" phase. Had they left someone responsive at the house they would have had bubbling hot pizza 20 minutes after they placed the order...rather than more like 40 when they actually showed up...*sigh* (they were quoted a 20-30m delivery time)

At DaddyJim's we'd keep the pizza and TELL them that we were re-sending the same one if they still wanted it. If they asked us to make a new one, we'd do so and eat or toss the old one.

Well, I'm just gonna say "check your local laws" on this one; Board of Health and similar regs frequently FORCE the issue -- and even one BoH violation can potentially get a place shut down.

It is. Back when I was in college, there was a "freegan" group that would raid supermarket and restaurant dumpsters for food - I never partook, but I heard about how good most of the stuff they got was. Once there was a platter of still-fresh sushi that was perfectly good and would have cost and arm and a leg store-bought.

The amount of food tossed out in this country is obscene. At least at the chocolate store I used to work at we were allowed to take home the chocolate dipped fruit (we made those daily).

Sadly, the thing where food needs to be destroyed is due to suck on the part of coworkers.

If employees can take home or eat food that would otherwise go to waste, what happens is that inevitably, some fucktard will do things to intentionally waste food. This could mean damaging packaging so the food item cannot be sold, or intentionally preparing more food than could possibly be sold, all so that they would be able to stuff themselves with that fresh and edible but unsellable food.

Just takes a few fucktards like that to ruin it for everyone.



And yes, this seriously peeves me off. I consider it immoral to generate waste on purpose. You accidentally drop a pizza on the floor? Alright, I fully understand that it needs to be destroyed.

Someone gives you the wrong address or refuses to answer the door and now a perfectly good, fresh, and edible pizza must be destroyed? That kind of wanton wastefulness is just morally wrong.

YUP!!!!! pissed of SC who gets free stuff cause they (meaning the SC) fucked up AND I GET STIFFED

AND I GOT ANOTHER WINNER AGAIN TONIGHT.

First delivery of the my shift. I roll up to the house. Ring the doorbell. I hear at least one DOG go nutz. I wait and wait. no one answers the door.

Ring the doorbell again. Again the dog goes nutz. again no answer.

go back to my car and call the number on the ticket. goes to voice mail. I leave my standard message about an order placed from this number and to please call me or the store back.

I wait. I call back again goes to voice mail.

I hop into my car and head back to the store. I call the store to let them know what the situation is.

MOD takes me off the run and dispatches me on another. Apparently about 30 minutes after that the dim bulb calls to ask where hos order was. He was told the driver had attempted to deliver but no one answered the door or the phone.
