My hotel chain offers employees a really good discount on rooms at other hotels in the chain. Usually the employee rate is about $35 a night. At out hotel the rooms start at $109 so it's a great discount.
So I get this call from a guy in a room that is getting the employee discount, he ask me how to work the fan in the bathroom. I explain that there is not individual fans in the bathrooms, but that there is a central system that comes on periodically. He then just goes off on me on how he is a hotel owner and our chain requires that all bathrooms have exhaust fans that come on when the light switch is turned on. And he just went on and on and on. I wasn't sure if he expected me to go install an exhaust fan that moment or if he wanted a discount on his $35 rate or what.
It seems like as an owner of a hotel he would know the person on the desk at 1AM usually doesn't handle corporate issues. I don't even know if it is a requirement or not. Our hotel is the #1 hotel of our brand in the state and we are in the top 20% in the country, so my owner follows all the rules or gets a waiver, so I'm sure we are OK.
But the fun part is that I looked up this guys hotel on trip advisor and there are multiple complaints about rooms being dirty and the staff being rude. But oddly, not one comment about how people enjoyed the exhaust fan in the bathroom.
