  • This Is A New One...

    For me anyway...

As I've said before, I work for a cell phone company,..in the retail store.
Tonight a lady walked in (not my customer so I will paraphrase...)

    CW _ coworker
    WL _ weird lady

CW: Hi! Can I help you?
    WL: YES! Look at me!!
    CW: ----???
WL : Do you see my nose??
CW: Yes? I see your nose?
    WL: LOOK CLOSELY!
    CW: .... yes?
    WL: It's RED!
    CW: Um...yes?
    WL: It's blistering!!
    CW: Is it?
WL: YES! And it's because of this phone!
    CW: Because of the phone...?
WL: YES! I was using the speaker phone and holding it up like this (holds phone directly up to nose/mouth area) and it made my nose red.
    CW: ... um...
WL: It's RADIATION coming from the phone! I felt it!!! I could feel the radiation blowing on my nose as I was talking!
CW: (and really...what DO you say to that??)
WL: I am on my way to the doctor now..and when he says it's RADIATION poisoning from this phone.. what are YOU going to do about it??
CW: um.. well ...we-we can send it back to the manufacturer under warranty?
    WL: What about my NOSE?
CW: We don't---we don't manufacture the phones...I suppose you'd have to call the manufacturer?
WL I will do just that! It's ridiculous! You sell radiating phones!
    ... and she stormed out.

What....the......hell?? Radiating phones? Next complaint will be excessive ear wax caused by the phone.
Oh, "Blah blah blah 'Your Needs'!"

"Radiation" turning her nose red, huh? Is that the name of a new alcohol?

      Ow.

Seriously? I mean, wow. That is a level of dumb/delusional I thankfully never had to deal with while working on the cellular side of the business here. Just.....wow.

She's definitely a special kind of stupid.

But we had much fun and laughter after she left.

Mrow? Maybe she was yakking it up on the phone while driving, and hit something - casuing her face to smash into phone and phone to smash into steering wheel...and this is why her nose is red!
If you are thinking to yourself, "Hmmm, should I post this?" it should probably go HERE.

My bet is that she was out in the sun talking on the phone until the battery went dead and got sunburn.

            My sister is like that.

Customer probably watched some primetime news show that had a story about the risk of radiation poisionong from cell phones and well....took it to the extreme. It amazes me that people STILL believe all the OTT crap they see on T.V. Sweet Jesus!

That's not possible. Everyone knows the sun doesn't give off any radiation at all!

Tell her if she's really concerned to check the owner's manual for the SAR rating (that's the legally acceptable amount of radiation put out by electronic device and no piece of electronic equipment can be sold unless it falls within FCC regulations). Then she can look up more information at fcc.gov. I get people once in awhile complaining they get headaches or whatever other ailments supposedly from their phone. Most of the time it turns out they aren't too concerned about long-term health effects, they just want a new phone without paying for it.

I know that every cellphone I've ever had, when I use it to talk for a while, such as longer than 15 minutes, it heats up. On the ones that I've had to talk on for an hour or so I have to switch hands/ears because the phone gets almost unbearably hot.

I don't have a new top of the line phone, never did need one or see the use for one, but has anyone else noticed this?

If she was touching her nose then maybe the heat from it caused it to turn red.

Oh, so THAT'S what's going on with my left ear, huh?

I didn't know radiation "blew"...I thought it, well, "radiated"...and incidentally, unless her phone has a fan in it, how is she feeling something "blowing" out of it?

It's normal for phones to get warm. Mine is a brand-new Samsung I just got in December and it warms up after 2-3 minutes. As long as it doesn't get too hot to touch, it's not a problem. If it ever gets too hot to touch, call your carrier and get it exchanged, because that's hazardous to your health (not due to radiation, but because they tend to start shooting sparks from overheating).
