Stopped at the local regional All-in-One store a couple of weeks ago and picked up some things...toothpaste, a new pair of shoes and a couple of other things before stopping at the bank outlet and then leaving.
Hours later I'm getting ready for bed and making sure everything is set for work the next day and I realize I can't find my new shoes. And then it dawns on me. I'd scanned the shoes and set them aside, bagged everything else in one bag, paid, grabbed the bag and left the shoes sitting there.
I knew I was sunk. Still, at 12:15am I wander back to the store receipt in hand and track down a manager. I explained the situation and wondered if, by any chance, someone had turned in/been picked up by an associate and turned into customer service. I figured they were closed at this time, but wanted to come back to talk to someone about the issue as soon as I realized my mistake.
He said they were indeed closed and that although they're supposed to be held at customer service for 24 hours they'd probably already been put back on the shelf.
He took me to the shoe section, asked me to point out the pair I'd purchased, walked me up front, scanned them and told me to have a nice day.
I thanked him profusely and told him I'd expected to have to pay for the shoes again, but that I taken a long shot that they might have been turned in. He told me that it happens quite often and he was more interested in me getting what I'd paid for.
I left impressed and with my new pair of shoes.
