  • Awesome tow truck driver (Long)

This one was almost a suck. Almost.

Hubs, Little Ara and I were on our way home from doing errands in town (including an oil change) when we started smelling something in my truck burning. We couldn't see any smoke, but we still pulled over since it smelled quite a bit like my truck ('87 Bronco II, for anyone interested) was burning oil. We called the oil change place, checked the fluids, and couldn't find anything wrong, so we continued on our way.

About five miles down the road, we started seeing a little bit of white smoke coming from the front left side of my truck. The wheel was also snatching the truck to the left while going and to the right while braking, so Hubs thought it was the brake on that side and we stopped at a convenience store.

Little Ara was hungry and fussy because she didn't get to finish her nap (she always naps in the car), and it's been in the triple digits outside, so we headed into the store to wait. Hubs called the insurance company, we discovered we only had roadside assistance for the vehicle we DON'T use (see here if you want to know why) and had to pay for the tow, then we called around asking family if anyone could drive us home. The tow truck was expected to pick my truck up by 4:40 (it was about 3:40 at the time), and we would get a call from the insurance company when it had been picked up.

The Suck: 4:00 rolls around and we get the call from the insurance company, saying it should be about 20 minutes before the tow truck got to our house. 4:30 rolls around, we're wondering where it is, and we get a call from the driver. He apparently couldn't find my truck in a small, mostly empty parking lot. Hubs tells him where it is, he finds it, and he gets it here around 5:30.

The Awesome That Totally Made Up For It: The guy actually stuck around and helped Hubs figure out what was wrong with the brake (piston in the brake caliper broke). They were outside for about an hour with temperatures still in the 90s, and he didn't even charge extra for the work. He just went about it like it was something he always does for people.

Right now Hubs is at the auto part store working on getting the part so he can fix it tonight, and he would have been screwed tomorrow with no way to get to work if it hadn't been for the driver.
The fact that jellyfish have survived for 650 million years despite not having brains gives hope to many people.

You would have to be incredibly dense for the world to revolve around you.
