had a rare one today.
it's a semi-frequent occurrence for parents to come back into the store and force their child to apologize for whatever they stole, but occasionally a kid stands out as honest and awesome. had one of them today. i was super busy in the middle of getting through the line in front of me, and all of a sudden i hear a boy practically shout "I'm not stealing! Put that back!" I look, and there's a kid around 10-12ish with a much younger boy with him (4-6ish?). the younger boy had a candy bar in his hand, and was trying to go out the door, but the older boy was blocking him and trying to wrestle the candy out of his hands. He repeated himself 2 or 3 more times... rather loudly... while the younger boy just made unhappy noises without actually saying anything. the younger boy finally lost his grip on the candy, and stormed out the door all kinds of pissed off that he wasn't allowed to steal and jumped on his bike and took off.
i gave the older boy a free jump pillow wristband and thanked him for his honesty.
