Last night, a lady was in my line, making conversation with the lady in front of her about how cute she thought her little boy was. As we're all talking a guy comes up behind the first lady and deliberately scares the wits out of her.
L: "GOOD LORD! How many times do I have to tell you, you don't do that to me!"
Jerk: "Aww, I was just having fun!"
L: "No, I've told you not to do that, it's not funny!"
She was clearly growing exasperated by this point.
I started ringing her up, and she had some beer and wine, so I asked her for ID. Now, she was clearly old enough to be buying this stuff, but our store has the 'card everyone' policy. She was taken aback at first, but gladly took out her ID and thanked me for 'making her night'. Her 'companion' stares in disbelief.
Jerk: "What . . . what the HELL? Asking for ID? Lady are you serious? Would you have carded me?
L: "Stop, no just stop being rude. It's ok - "
J: "It's NOT okay, it's dumbassed."
L: "No, it's okay. These people have been taking care of me for over twenty years-"
J: "If some girl asked for my ID I'd tell her to kiss my you know what!"
L: (growing really, really offended now) "It. Is. FINE. This store has been taking care of me for twenty years and I don't care if they check my ID. I like it."
I finish them out, and then she asks if we sell ice and could I ring her up a bag. Now, normally, I have them go get the ice first, as I need to scan it, but she'd been so nice up to this point and was really frustrated, so I rang it as taxable grocery, and she made jerkwad go and get it. While he was gone, she turned to me and said . .
"I am sooo sorry. He is so rude! He's like that all the time."
Me: "Really, it's ok ma'am."
L: "No, it is not ok. He's like this all the time. I took him to my club tonight and he was rude like that to all my girls, was rude to my other friends . . . ugh. It was some friends of mine who introduced me to him and he's just awful!"
Geez. I hope she finds a way to ditch him soon
But that's the first time I've had someone apologize for their companion's piss poor behavior.
