If I'm done with my food, and want to chat to my boyf/friends; we go sit in the bar. XD
People who don't like cats were probably mice in an earlier life.

If the establishment is not busy . . .it is polite to ask the server if they mind if you enjoy your drink and just chat for a bit.
Usually the server will let you know if they have to wait on you to be let go for the evening or if it is ok.
Points for tiping accordingly to the time spent at the table not just the food/ beverage consumed.

When I was in Collage once a week I ate at the same place . . .but had 2 hours to kill.
I had a really cool waitress who didn't mind me staying at one of her tables and studying as long as they weren't busy. And yes, I tipped her accordingly.
Manager asked her about it one time. She told him I was polite, brought other people with me regularly for eating, tipped, cleaned up, and would move if the table was needed. He had no problems with it either.

I've allways scraped anything left onto the top plate and stacked them for the server - Thought it was just good manners to do so, plus if my nanna ever found out i was rude to the people prepareing my food in a resturant she'd give me that look :/
