Seriously, she deserves her own superhero costume or something. She's sweet, funny, knows everyone at the company, etc.
She also loves to do insane dances to hip-hop, if it's early, and no managers are there.
But here are two of her greatest moments:
1. The A/C drizzle day. In our call center, four of the computers are collected in the center of the room. We have those acoustic tiles thingies above, with square flourescent lights. One day, we see that the tile is discolored and bulging. We know this usually means a leak, and sure enough, here come a few drips coming down. Just as we get a bucket underneath it, a gap opens between the light and the tile, and a cascade of water comes down. We scramble to turn off the computers and cover them with plastic. Turns out the AC had been left on overnight, frozen, and floooded into the ceiling. The repairman couldn't come until the next morning. We work in Southern California. It was the middle of summer. Our room has no windows. We were not happy campers. That afternoon, we hear the jingle of the ice-cream cart that comes by every day or so. J, the accountant, yells out, "Everybody go get ice cream! it's on us!" Made the day soooooooooo much better!
2. Pie Day. On this particular day, most of our office was at a convention, we had all had icky customers on the phone, and were just grouchy. J goes to make her usual run to the bank, but comes back with a bag from the grocery, and some boxes from Polly's. She brought out 4 different kinds of pie, and 2 kinds of ice cream. She set them up in the break room, then came intto the call center, and said, "Turn your phones off for a while. Come eat some pie until your dispositions get sweeter!" Which we did. And we were MUCH cheerier on the phone after that!
(Oddly enough, two of the most popular people at my company are the accountant and the lawyer! The lawyer was actually a model for drawings of Santa Claus in a children's book.)
