The Praise I Hate To Give

For all my ranting about Comcast, I have to give praise when they get it done right.

I had them come out and install a cable card (why I can't do it is a mystery to me, still) in our tv. The first guy came out on Fri, Apr 18. I was very cross with him, and was glad to see him go.

When he left, part of his instructions were that some of the channels might take a while to start coming through. Like, say, Sci-Fi.

So, I waited. Until Monday morning. Still no Sci-Fi channel. Nor any other encrypted channel. So, I called up, scheduled an appointment for two days ago, Sat, Apr 26. The guy was late getting out there, but acceptably so (scheduled for noon to 3, got there about 3:45).

Looked at the problem. Had me show some of the channels. Made a phone call. Two minutes later, we had all the channels we were paying for. Some sort of maintenance bit on the cable card had to be done.

With all of my ranting against Comcast, it's almost physically painful to say this: They did a good job. It's only fair to say something good when they do manage to get it right.

The problem is, you probably couldn't be a SC if you tried. I, on the other hand ... .

The first guy came out, messed up on the installation, and was rude. The second guy was late, and showed the first guy was a butthead and that with a simple call, he could have prevented you missing out on the wonderful goodness that is the Sci- Fi channel.

This praise is really more that you are a good customer, I would have easily been able to turn that experience into a rant. I hate internet cable companies, though. Most of them are pure evil, just because they know they can be, as the only game in town really.
