Finally, I get a guest that is nice and noteworthy at the same time!
So, when I came into work today I dropped my bag off in the office, punched in and went to check the towel drawer. It was okay (nicely stocked) so I turned around and there are the table behind me was four rather colourful jars and a note.
EQ,
A little something from my Kitchen in NC.
Thank you for your help during our mother's passing and funeral.
Thank you,

I asked Mrs. M if it belonged to another guest and she assured me that it was from a guest for me. I spoke to this woman on the phone several weeks ago when she made her reservations. I told her I was from Franklin when she said she was from Bryson City. (They are pretty close to each other)
We had chatted for a bit and I learned that she stayed in my old hotel in Franklin a couple times while I worked there. (small world, eh?)
During her calls, I answered her questions as best I could, gave her custom directions on getting from her city to Houston, made sure her rooms would be perfectly cleaned and never smoked in (as her son was badly allergic to smoke) and wrote a list of a few choice restaurants that I thought she and her grieving family might enjoy. I even talked my boss into giving them a special rate because they had booked 10 rooms. (the minimum mass-room discount we give is for 25)
The guest was a wonderfully nice lady (with well behaved children, I might add!) and brought me some goodies: Blueberry, strawberry jellies, a jar of fresh sugared peaches and a bigger jar of homemade pickles.
I guess it's just one of the nice perks of going out of your way for someone special. My guest was mourning the loss of her mother and I did my best to make their stay tolerable during this sad time in their lives. I'd like to think I made their stay a big better.
