What a gem of a lady I got yesterday.
I worked last night, which was my last night after two weeks of hell (I've been managing two stores to cover my boss's vacation). I was tired, had a headache, and due to a serious illness in my family, had other things on my mind.
I rang a woman through for two bottles of wine, but managed to only charge her for one. She noticed when the total came up on the debit PIN pad.
She said, "Honey, you're shortchanging yourself. I'll press 'cancel' here and let you fix that."
I corrected the mistake, and thanked her profusely.
She just waved me off and said, "I've worked at a bank for ten years, and I know what is involved when you don't balance at the end of the night. Sure, I could save myself ten bucks, but that's not worth ruining someone's evening."
I just really needed that little bit of kindness last night. She made my day.
