I called a lady and left a voicemail to let her know that the book she had on hold is available. This is standard procedure, I had probably called about fifteen other people right before her. Now, hardly anyone comes down the same day we call- we often take books off the shelf because people hadn't come in for them.
Now, my messages are pretty bland- "Hello, this is the WLP Library calling for Patron, to let her know that her book is available so if she could come on down and pick it up, that would be great! Have a good afternoon! click"
That afternoon, a lady comes in and tells me that she came in to pick up a hold, and I noticed that it had been me to call, so I said "Oh! I called you just this morning!"
She replied, "You left such a chipper message that I just had to come down and pick it up!"
I don't know, I just felt really good that I had been cheerful enough at the crack of ten that someone felt compelled to come down and tell me that. I guess it's the small things in life.
