I have to give Kudos and cookies to the one place that will always be tops in service in my book. My wife and I decided we wanted to have a nice night out. We decided we wanted to have Japanese and decided on a restaraunt I had only been to once before: The Kyoto. (This is on the southwest corner of 1100 East and 1300 South in Salt Lake City, Utah.) We ordered some appetizers, drinks, Sashimi, egg drop soup (with tofu if I recall correctly), Shrimp tempura, rice and 1 or 2 entrees.
It was served to us perfectly. the appetizer and drinks were served first. Whenever my drink dropped below 1/2 - 1/3 full there was always another drink provided....with a straw. When the first glass ran out it was removed quickly.
When we were almost finished with the appetizer the egg drop soup arrived piping hot. When that was almost gone our waitress served us the Sashimi and sushi we had ordered. All with the appropriate sauces and pastes etc.
When that was almost gone we were served our shrimp tempura (once again PIPING hot!!) and rice with our entrees. We were then offered a light dessert to finish off the meal. I never once had to ask for utensils or chopsticks or a straw or a refill or water or the rest of our food. It was served in courses and always piping hot (for the hot stuff) or cold/cool (for the cold/cool things.) There was never a lull in the service for our entire meal and I wasn't plastered with "is everything ok?" questions.
Since that time I have NEVER been served that well. Not at the $60 a plate restaurant. Not at the $35 a plate restaraunt that I like (Carvers), and certainly not at the $8-$25 a plate restaraunts.
The bill for our meal totaled about $50. Because of the excellent (Perfect 10!) service I left a tip of an additional $25. This totally blew the mind of the hostess. She asked me, "Are you sure?" I simply told her, " I have never been so well served in all my life. This will ALWAYS be the service that I judge others on when deciding to tip. The waitress earned EVERY penny of that $25 and I always reward excellent service with excellent tips!"
