  • Awwww!

As much as they sometimes get on my nerves, my part-timers are the sweetest!

For the past two days I've been sick with something that reminds me far too much of the "dorm plague" that would go around when I was in college. Not the flu, but still knocks you on your ass for and makes you wish for mommy. I was off Tuesday (and pretty much slept through it), and woke up Wednesday knowing there was no way I was getting out of bed, so I called in. Now, I work at a small, upscale maternity boutique. Often opening and closing is single coverage. There are only five of us on the staff. I was lucky that we had people scheduled so that I could call in and not come in to close. But they were still down one person out of three. And did 150% of what they were planned to do. And had twice as much shipment come in as usual. I feel kinda guilty about being sick.

Today, I took some DayQuil, drank lots of tea with honey, and stubbornly made it through my shift, because I really didn't want to shaft them again, and it doesn't look good if your ASM is calling out a bunch. We still didn't make it through all the new arrivals when I left (another busy day) and of course more came in today. I told my manager (who was off today) I would come in tomorrow and just pound through shipment until it was done, and just take a half-day's sick time.

Well, my part-timers who closed tonight called me about an hour later than they should have been out of the store from the work phone. My first thought was that something was horribly wrong. Not so. They did all that work for me! They had a quiet evening, and decided to stay late and get everything done so that I could sleep tomorrow!

I would bake them cookies, but I'm afraid of giving them my doom-cold.
