  • AAA Rocks My Socks

Today I was supposed to go to a picnic being held by the club I'm in. Those of us who live on main campus and didn't want to walk got in my car and I tried to start it, but no luck. Couldn't do anything to get it to start. I knew it wasn't the battery because it was making an effort to start and the radio worked. Left it in the parking lot and went to the picnic in someone else's car.

Got back in the afternoon, took a shower (volleyball in 60 degree F heat really gives you a sweat), then went back to my car to try one more time before calling AAA. Same thing. Called AAA, and after only waiting a couple minutes on hold, I was talking to a receptionist. She was very friendly and ridiculously helpful. Made sure to ask me if I was in a safe area. Gave me the names of multiple garages in the area my car could be taken to, directions to the place I wanted, phone number to the place. Told me there was a tow truck pretty close by and it should be there soon, then wished me a better night than I was having.

Tow truck driver got there in about 5 minutes flat. Managed to start my car with his magical touch. Joked around with me some, told me what was wrong and to take it somewhere to get a tuneup, and all was good.

I gotta say, that was some utterly amazing service. The receptionist was very helpful and the tow truck driver found me easily and quickly. Couldn't ask any more from AAA.

    Oh, yes.

I had totaled my car and was driving a loaner. I needed gas one evening, and this being the first time I'd had to fill the fuel tank, sat in the car quite a few moments trying to figure out how to do that in this unfamiliar car. Finally found the release lever, jumped out of the car, slammed the door behind me filled up the tank...

    and the doors were locked.

And I'm in a low cut sweater and trousers, walk into the station, where a modestly dressed woman with her hair covered looked at me, politely, as I tried to pull my jacket around me. I had to ask to use the phone, and the phone book. AAA asked if I could tell them my membership number. I told them I'd be delighted, but the card was in my purse in the front seat of my locked, rental car.

I knew it was a Kia, but I told them the wrong kind. I guess it didn't matter much.
They sent me to the top of the list because having a car stuck at a gas pump is considered a "dangerous" area.
