  • Sometimes the Universe Just Meshes the Right Way

OK. Two posts in this section in two days. Sometimes life is OK.

This didn't blow my mind because of the employees were outstanding and genuinely nice (which they were).

Or that the store policies made things very easy (which they did).

    It was more than that...

Last weekend I went to a clearance sale and found a very nice brass advent circle for $7.00. They had a few, I selected the one on top.

When I got home I noticed that one of the feet was missing. They are removeable and can be screwed on and off. So I saved the receipt and planned to get back there and exchange it. I had no desire to return it because I liked it. Worst case would be to keep it and try to see if the guys at the sheet metal place Mr. Dips used to work for could weld something onto it to keep it from wobbling (he was recently laid off from that job, but is still on friendly terms with his ex-manager).

We finally got there today. The place had two employees and both were busy helping customers, so we just looked around a bit. When the first employee was free, we showed her the ring and asked if we could exchange. She ran to the back room but came back empty-handed. They were sold out which wasn't a shock; it was on clearance after all. So I thanked her for her time and said I'd just keep it and we'd try to fix it, because I really liked it. It was good quality, even with the missing foot.

At the point the second employee had finished with her customer. She kind of caught the end of the conversation and asked if we were looking for a refund. I said no, that I was happy to keep it, because it was only missing one of the feet. I turned it over to show her it wasn't so bad.

She said, "Wait. I think I've solved a mystery."

Then she ran into the back room and came out with the foot. It fit.

It turns out she had been cleaning the store a while back and came across the foot. She had no idea what it was, but she picked it up and put it in her apron pocket. Later she found it in her pocket at home before doing laundry and put it into her bag to bring back to work and promptly forgot it.

Until we walked in and sparked her memory. What were the chances of all those coincidences happening at once?

Needless to say, we were probably the happiest customers they had that day.
The best karma is letting a jerk bash himself senseless on the wall of your polite indifference.

The stupid is strong with this one.
