Yeah, ditto. Though for some reason I tend to get great service when I go out. I'd like to think it's a combination of generous tipping and being an undemanding customer. Even if something does go horribly wrong, I don't dock tips unless it was THEIR fault....WHY DO YOU TEMPT WHAT LITTLE FAITH IN HUMANITY I HAVE!?! -- Kalga
And I want a pony for Christmas but neither of us is getting what we want OK! What you are asking is impossible. -- Wicked Lexi

Well, remember, Mike, that amount got split between all the dealers, after being added to that pay period's tips.Quoth MadMike View PostHoly
I could pay my house off with that.
I am so in the wrong line of work.
I think the end total came out to like $35/hour in tips or something... And I had over 70 hours that check.
Dealer hits... 21. Table loses.
This happens more often than most people want to believe.

My best tip for delivering food was $300 on a, say, $10 order.
The guy was the richest guy in town and known for being a good, but not great, tipper. So when he hands me 3 $100 bills, I did a double take. (I thought he was drunk and in the morning, when he was sober, he was going to call my boss for his money.) He says, "I know it's a lot but I want you to have it." I thanked him as profusely as I could. Hot damn!
This was in the summer after HS. I move away and years later, I meet his daughter. We'd been in the same HS at the same time but didn't know each other. As we're making small talk, I mention her dad's huge tip.
She said that in the last year of his life, as he was dying of cancer, he'd gone around giving huge tips to servers and maids, and yes, delivery guys. He knew what it was like to have poorly paying jobs where it was hard to save a lot because we had so many expenses. A large sum might be enough for a down payment on something or a security deposit and he wanted to help out.
In my case, his $300 paid for what college scholarships and crappy student jobs didn't begin to cover.
I got two glasses of that cheap jug wine they serve at parties, handed one to the woman and we drank a toast to her dad's memory.
