  • "I hope you don't mind!"

I was out to lunch with a few coworkers today and one of my coworkers started talking about when he used to be a cook at an Italian restaurant.

Apparently, this place was pretty upscale, and didn't have a kids' menu. However, they were usually accommodating and tried to make plain pizza, noodles, etc., if anyone brought youngsters in.

One evening, a large party with several children came in and my (now) coworker heard them tell the server "Oh, we brought in a pizza for the kids. They don't like the stuff you have here. We just wamted them to eat while we had some wine (i.e, the parents)."

My coworker then told us that the manager overheard this and walked right up to the party. He swears the following came out of the manager's mouth: "Well, that's nice. Why don't you take the pizza back to where you brought it from and eat it THERE."

Apparently they walked out in a huff, but we all agreed the manager was very ballsy, but heroic, to kick them out. In a high volume place, they have a lot of nerve wasting all that space when the restaurant is going to make peanuts.

If the adults wanted a quiet evening out, then they should have left the kids at home or gone to a more family-friendly place.
"If you are planning not to tip, please let your server know before ordering so they can decide whether or not to wait on you" - from an advice column I read some time ago

It was pretty ballsy of that party to bring outside food into a restaurant in the first place! And not "ballsy" in a good way. Kudos to the manager for sticking to his guns!
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.
