Background-So I'm more than a little disorganized, and every blue moon or so I paint myself into a bit of a corner. When that happens, I always make sure to be very polite to everyone I ask to help me, because we all know the saying about flies and honey.
Anyway, so I'd been putting off getting a refill of a medicine I need to take every day, partly because it's expensive and partly because I need my Dr.'s authorization for it and I can't find the time to go see him. Yesterday I was about to run out, and I panicked. Ok, time to get my rear in gear.
Relevant facts:
1. My Dr.'s office closes at 4pm weekdays, and has no weekend hours.
2. My shift that day started before my Dr.'s office opened, and ended at 4.
3. When I put in the prescription at the CVS website, it mentions the pharmacist can call the office but that the Dr. might need to speak to me before he oks the refill.
4. I'm at work, on my break, which is only 15 minutes long.
5. My cell phone's battery is almost drained.
So I call my Dr.'s office. The time is about 1:30pm.
I tell the answering medical assistant my name and the mess I've gotten myself into, and she seems a little confused, so she gets someone else on the line. I guess this lady must be the resident Extra-Competent One, to whom others turn in times of difficulty.
Within 15 minutes, this lady
a. gets my information
b. explains to Dr.
c. gets his ok written up all official and faxes it to CVS
d. re-faxes it, just in case
e. calls CVS to make sure they got it
f. calls me
g. explains I can pick up meds
h. makes sure I know which CVS to pick meds up at
i. becomes my hero
So yeah. This lady saved my bacon.
I guess maybe it doesn't seem like much, but I'm really grateful because I can think of about 2 dozen ways this could have gone wrong, and because this lady was just so darn efficient- but also careful to get it done right so I wouldn't have to worry about being out of the medicine for the whole weekend.
So I think next time I go in for an appointment I need to bring chocolates for the office or something to say thanks.
