  • To my local MACU teller

I was at my local Mountain America Credit Union today, depositing my paycheck. I've been in the negatives for the last little while, and I'm finally able to pay all my bills without going back into the negatives. I say something to that effect to the teller when she says "I know you know, but I have to remind you that your account is overdrawn."

She looks at me, smiles, and goes "Well, as a one time courtesy, I'm gonna refund $100 of overdraft fees."

OMG!!!!! I've never been so happy! I made sure she knew she made my day, as well as her manager.

    To my Teller! THANK YOU!!!!

I've had call center reps with Wachovia do the same thing.

I called them while I was in rehab to get the account information so my mom could go deposit my short term disability checks - my account was seriously overdrawn and I hadn't thought to bring a checkbook or anything with my account number with me. The rep I spoke with told me the account was actually slated to be closed the following day, and depositing the checks wouldn't help as they wouldn't have cleared in time. She asked if I had any cash on me, I explained that I was in a hospital and had no way of getting to a bank, and even if I did, there wasn't a Wachovia within about 70 miles (the closest one was in San Antonio, I was a few miles outside of Kerrville).

She waived about $150 in overdraft fees and said my account now had a positive balance of about $10 and wished me good luck in recovery.

I wish I'd written her name down so I could write a letter commending her, though she may have gotten in trouble for waiving that much in fees for 1 customer.
