  • sometimes, online reviews on google are wrong

I recently moved out to western philly (lived in philly for almost 7 years but now I am finally in a good neighborhood.) that happens to be near a bike shop. I am in hipster territory, and what comes with hipsters is bikes, mostly fix geared. I went online to check out what this bikeshop was like, because I was 3.5 miles from work, and didn't want to pay 20 bucks a week to take the trolly. almost all of them said they were elitist jerks who treated outsiders like they were idiots. I found this odd... but I kept it in mind when I finally trudged my way in with my old bike to ask if it was even worth fixing.

I decided to take the honest route when I went in. I told the girl that I knew barely anything about bikes, and wasn't about to pretend to know anything. I told her what I needed, and wanted to know if my old bike was worth fixing. she told me, after all the service and parts, it would be better to just get a used or new one in better condition. I took her advice, bought a nice looking slightly used hybrid, and rode away.

unfortunatly... it was terrible. I couldn't go one week without coming in to get the back wheel fixed. it kept coming loose and rubbing up against my frame. after 3 trips, they added a super strong axle and new bolt. no charge on any service because it was well into the 30 days... but after 8 blocks... it came loose again. I paid 280 bucks for it, and I was very unhappy... but I knew... it may not be their fault. so I sent my GF in (since I had work and wouldn't be able to come in for weeks before they closed) and they said they would take it back at full refund.

unfortunatly their filing is terrible. they tried to find my reciept for the exact price, but couldn't find it. she told them 250-280... but the guy said he would give me 300 credit! I was amazed! so i told her to pick out a brand new bike instead of used. she browsed and sent me pictures over the phone and found a nice cruiser for about 330. I was willing to cough up 30 bucks for it and told her to go ahead and buy it. I get a phone call back about 10 minutes later and she said they refused to take her money! they just gave her the bike for a straight up exchange. I paid 280 for that used bike, got 300 credit, and a nice 10% discount on a new bike for my trouble.

I don't know what those reviewers did. perhaps they walked in trying to seem all "know it all" and got snuffed. but I got nothing but amazing service from them. I didn't get mad at them once, showed them I understood sometimes bikes just don't work out (they cant be expected to ride every bike they have like I did to the used one) and it paid off for me in the end.

so if you're in philly, and need a bike fixed, new parts, or a new/used bike, stop by fire house bikes on Baltimore ave! they are amazing and they will definatly see me again... I just hope I can avoid cars better than I did with my old bike.... it's no turn on red you jerk!!!

everyone back in my home town has relised this joke.... and sometimes calls me fresh prince... but I'm white... and I don't play B-ball after school... and I never ran into a couple-a guys in my neighborhood.

Oh, hey, and don't forget to leave your own review to let people know that your experience was nothing like what you were expecting based on the previous reviews.
