I was grocery shopping at my local supermarket the other day and had a really good experience with the cahsier.

He was only about 17 and looked real nervous (like this was his first time solo on the tills) Not only did he pack my groceries they way I put them on the belt. He greeted me pleasantly, asked about my day, inquired if I had my receipt for the vegies I had in my trolley from the fruit market down the road (I did) double checked my signature on my CC receipt (so few actually do these days) And was generally effecient, curteous and knew what he was doing.

I was so impressed with him, after he had finished ringing me up, I walked over to the service desk and complimented him to the manager. I felt he deserved recognition for his work. The manager seemed surprised. I guess they are more used to hearing complaints than compliments.

"We don't have a gold plated toilet"

Good for you! Sounds like he's fresh out of training, maybe his first day on the registers, and you probably made his day (and his manager's). Sounds like he's a natural for retail (.... poor guy).

Sad, but I think that's true of most places. Every time someone wants to "speak with a manager"

1 time out of 1,000 it will be a compliment. Maybe less.

Way to go, kid, for knowing how to pack groceries. Nobody knows how to do that anymore. Half the grocery stores around here are bag-it-yourself, and I prefer those because my tomatoes don't end up under my canned beans and on top of frozen peas.

When my daughter started working at a supermarket (at 16) they didn't bother to train them to bag. My parents came through and she was 'bagging'. My dad looked at her and asked if they trained her. she replied 'no'. so my Dad took over, showed her exactly how things should be bagger, (when the FES tried to take her away because he was bagging, Dad said 'You will leave her here, I am doing YOUR job and teaching her how to properly bag!" FES backed off. <FES was glad she had when she found my Mom worked for the main office!>). My daughter had people calling her to bag for them regularly as soon as they realized she wouldn't put heavy on top of light, or cleaning supplies, ect in with food.

=/ I thought that it was common knowledge. Stuff that's poison, like bleach doesn't go in with, say, raw meat in case of contamination, or a can of pie filling on top of bread. How sad that they don't teach people how to bag anymore.
