I lost my cellphone recently. Not too big a deal, since it just a little prepaid flip-phone I only have for emergency use (I swear, the most minutes I've ever used in one month was 17, and that was when I had to travel repeatedly to a hospital 80 miles away and would call my hubby to tell him I was on my way home). I have more appointments looming, and I can't find the thing, so I broke down today and bought a new one. I followed all the automated instructions to activate it, but I wanted to transfer my old number to my new phone so I got bumped to a live operator to finish the activation.
Problem 1) I didn't have my serial number from my old phone. She told me that I needed it to port the phone number over, but when I explained that I lost the phone she did some behind-the-scenes finagling and managed to get around that.
Problem 2) I couldn't remember how many minutes I had left on my account. Like I said, I so rarely use the phone I couldn't remember. Since I get automatic double minutes, when I buy a 60 minute card it adds 120 to my account. Those last 90 days, and the only reason I add more is because the days are going to expire.
Customer Service Lady (CSL): Do you remember how many minutes you have left?
Me: Uhm... not really. (remembering that I lent it to my sister recently while her father-in-law was sick and she hit the stored minutes pretty hard) Fifty or so?
CSL *in a very perky tone*: I'm pretty sure I heard you say you had about a hundred minutes. I'll call it an even 120 for the trouble of losing your phone.
Me: Thank you!
So even though I wasn't properly prepared to activate the phone with my old number, this wonderful woman was able to not only salvage my old number but also comped me minutes I never expected to get.
So, Tracfone Customer Service Lady, THANK YOU!
