Target was on the ball today. They had staff outside the store, walking the line that wrapped through TWO store parking lots, handing out free shopping bags and maps of the store, and most importantly warning the crowd that anyone seen running or shoving would be escorted off the premises without their precious holiday purchases. Associates were cheery and helpful, and I can't remember a BF sale that went that smoothly, at least from a customer point of view.
I especially liked the fact that they spread their super-duper sales items across the store, rather than have everyone bunching up in tiny areas like electronics. The people outside who weren't listening to the associates handing out the maps wound up going to the wrong area and probably missed out on their LCDs.
Best of all, they were controlling line jumpers. The ignorant jerks who thought they could mass up outside the line near the doors were very firmly turned away and told to get in line like everyone else.

If only if only my town would get one...someday.
