This is a story from 2006, but it's still a fond memory.
Before I started my current job, I worked as a freelance IT-trainer.
So I gave this single person training to the chief accountant of a firm. Outlook and time management tips and tricks. Quite a nice guy and we had a good rapport, which makes teaching so much easier. During breaks we chatted and I commented on his Crumpler laptop bag. He mentioned that they were importing those bags. So I jokingly remarked that he was one of the bad guys that placed evil traps for me in shops, trying to get me to buy one of those bags for my laptop, but that I had so far resisted temptation, since I had a bag for my laptop already.
All in all the training went very well, customer happy, me happy, great!
A few days later the training center called: There's a big parcel for you, marked -personal-. Come here a.s.a.p we want to know what's in there.
Well so wanted I.
As you might have guessed the parcel was from the customer, a Crumpler laptop bag
and a nice personal letter, about how helpful the training was and that he was already using the things I had shown him. And that he thought it a proper atonement to give me that bag after my remarks.
Of course I wrote a thank you letter back.
