In the run up to Christmas, availability for cars was incredibly tight. Many of our members had made bookings months in advance.
I took a call maybe 2 weeks before Christmas from a member wanting to reconfirm her Christmas booking. Simple, right? Except she had cancelled that booking back in October.
She was totally distraught, as she must have cancelled by mistake. Two weeks before Christmas, most rental car firms are already booked solid. She was worried that there would be no way for her to get home for Christmas.
I worked my magic and managed, against the odds, to find her a car, not too far away, for the whole period of her booking. Hearing the relief and gratitude in her voice when I told her gave me a magic glow for the rest of the day and reminded me why I work in customer service in the first place.
But wait, there's more... so I come in to work the other day and am handed an envelope. What could it be? We do process post as part of our job, so I assumed it might be related to a case I was working on.
It was a card from this member, thanking me for what I did and letting me know that her Christmas had gone well. I was floored... in any job, I've never received a personal thank you card. It made my day.
