My store currently has a little box thing at the podium for people to put their change in to donate it to one of the many Haiti relief funds out there. We have little signs taped up on the registers saying this and directing them to the box.
This one guy is in my line earlier today and reads the sign. When it's his turn, we exchange the standard pleasantries before he asks where the box is, exactly. I point it out, he nods, asks me for cigs before paying with a card and asking for $20 cash back.
At this point, my fickle brain has already forgotten that he even asked where the box was until I notice him wander over to it and put the $20 he just got as cash back into the little slot on the box.
Things like that make me want to cry, they make me so happy. I don't see a lot of overly mean people, but very few people who go out of their way like this.
