Toronto has an annual festival where some of the top restaurants have prix fixe menus at either $35 or $45 pp. (Yes, I know. Unfortunately it's hard to get tickets.) My parents went, and paid the extra $20 pp to get the appropriate wine with each course. So far, so good. My dad, after the meal decided to order a glass of port. Now, my parents are doing fairly well, so he didn't feel the need to ask how much the port cost.
When the bill came, however, he wished he had: $120 for the port. My dad realised that he couldn't really complain, it was his fault for not asking. (I'm proud of him). However, when the waiter came back with the credit card (we still don't use chip cards much here in Canada), he explained
"There seems to have been a mistake, you were charged for the entire bottle of port. I fixed that for you."
So thank you for noticing that my parents had been charged almost 10x too much for the port. Not everyone would have been paying enough attention to notice that the bill was twice what it ought to have been. And thank you for having the basic decency to actually bother to fix it.
