At the wholesale club today, saw this little girl clearly monkeying around, crawling under the conveyor belts of the registers, even doing the wagging-the-fingers-on-the-sides-of-the-head and going "Nyah, nyah, you can't get me!"
...to her mother.
Needless to say, Mama got her hands on the girl and promptly buckled her into the seat on the cart. Little Girl (who had to be at least eight years old) does not like this, and starts whining, then crying. I mean full-on SOBBING. She wants to get down. Mama says, "No, you're in trouble." Girl: "NO, I'M NOT IN TROUBLE!"
She carries on for about ten minutes at full-volume screaming and sobbing and whining, while Mama and Dad and Grandma just ignore her fit-throwing.
Girl eventually quieted down, but was still moping and crying and upset. I recognized the signs of "I'm not giving up, I'm just catching my breath to start up again later." But Mama did not back down.
The whole family eventually left, the Girl still insisting "I'm not in trouble," and I heard her burst into full-volume as they were walking out the door.
I applaud that woman for not caving in or otherwise going into Angry Mom Yelling (or worse) in public.
