Now this was a blast from the past. This was my first encounter with the $20 man (aptly named because he left $20 for each meal he has.) I didn't know who he was, as I hadn't seen him before and nobody had told me about him. I had him as a cust for breakfast, served him and everything was fine. He left me no tip but I thought "no big deal, I've been stiffed by single-cust tables before."
That friday, as I am walking to the office to get my check, he stops me, hands me the $20 and says "this is for you. Thank you for waiting on me." I am STUNNED. Totally didn't expect that at all. That completely made my week! And since it was after I had signed my card and declared for the week, I didn't have to declare the tip! Free $20! And as an aside, he was a pleasure to wait on, easy orders and never had a problem with him. One of the best customers ever. Wonder if he is on this site?
For the record, nobody knows how he made his money but he was damn rich. I think he was a .com millionaire.
