When I started eating at a certain restaurant in town, I had no idea how things would progress.
It started with me coming in to pick up my order and chatting with the owner. My former job was located in the general vicinity, so I ate there fairly often.
Of course, this led to me becoming acquainted with the entire staff. I would get more food in my orders. A few little goodies in addition. That sort of thing.
During this long, freezing, desperate winter, the owner, who is now a firm friend of mine, was one of the people who helped keep me alive. I kid you not. He invited me for dinner on the house. He gave me extra food. He listened to me. He shared his ideas.
Now? He's offered to sell the jewelry I make! "I'll wait until they've had a few drinks," he told me, "and then I'll go to the table and ask, 'wouldn't you like something for your girlfriend?'"
Does friendship ever get any better than this?
