I'm a seasonal worker in a small toy store in an upscale neighbourhood, and it's November.
The parents are patient at the cash even when there's six people in line with huge purchases and even though there's only one cash in the store.
The kids are well-behaved and not out of control, for the most part. While I was downstairs the other day I heard some tyke screaming blue murder that he didn't want to leave, but that's the only meltdown I've seen so far.
Occasionally customers have rather awkward demands, but nothing we can't handle. One lady bought two hundred dollars worth of dollhouse furniture and stuff, which was about twelve items, and asked if we could wrap it before she came back from picking her daughter up from school -- in ten minutes. She didn't want the kid to see the stuff in the car, because a lot of it was for her. We looked at each other like "ack!" for a moment, but then everybody pulled together and wrapped stuff, and it was done by the time she came to pick it up.
I might be working Christmas Eve or Boxing Day (for you non-Commonwealth folks, it's Dec 26 and it's a big day for returns and gift card spending and picking up sale items), so I'm sure it'll get hairier, but so far I've been pleasantly surprised.
