My main PC is out of action. One of the two graphics cards has gone boom and the PC is just over a year old. I'm pretty handy with my pc but I really don't want to be pulling the graphics card out and stuff.

Well my PC is still under warranty (all Part and Labour covered) so I rang them up and chatted with one of their engineers. Told him the graphics card had gone, told him what had happened and he agreed, we ran the blue screen of death anyway so he could check the code to be sure. Sure enough BSoD and the right code.

In the meantime me and him were happily geeking out about ipads, tvs, compys etc.

Sorted out the shipping back with ease, they are sending me a huge box for Zen (my PC) so they can fix him up I was on the phone half an hour (about 10 on hold, it isn't a huge company) and 25 talking with the guy, no pressure to be pushed off the phone with a quick fix, no arguments about who's fault it was and just friendly customer service.

All for £5 for three years! So I glad I paid for it.

Very very cool. I used to do a lot of 'liaison' work - calling tech companies on behalf of clients and really miss chatting with people around the world. I understand it, but I'm bummed that the backlash against outsourced support means a simple "Where are you?" has to be ignored. Glad there's still some willing to converse outside the script.
