We have a lot of students that are incredibly grateful for the help we give them - we've had flowers, chocolates, biscuits (om nom nom)...but this guy was so sweet, I'll forgive him for not bringing any nommy stuff!
He's about seven foot tall, so he makes me feel tiny (and I'm not exactly short...), so it's quite odd talking up to him for a start. He came over and asked for help with our photocopier, so I showed him how to work it. He thanked me several times and then got on with it, but I'd noticed that he was researching a particular topic. We have some bibliographies on various things, so I printed him out one on this topic, and took it over.
He would. not. stop. thanking. me. It got embarrassing after about five minutes...he's absolutely lovely and it really made me smile, but really, it's ok! It's what we're here for! We like helping you!
And then he came back in yesterday and I found a book for him (he came straight to me too, because I'd helped last time), and he kept thanking me for that. He's absolutely adorable, and even though he is seven foot tall I just want to give him a hug! And then smack him round the head - although I'd have to jump - and tell him to stop thanking us all the time for doing our jobs.
Our students are absolutely useless most of the time, and then you get the one or two gems who really make it all worthwhile.
