  • Helps to read the 'care' tag ...

    Those involved:
    Me
    DCE (Dry Cleaner Employee)

I decided to risk believing winter is truly over and take my winter coat in for drycleaning and hopefully a repair of the zipper. I drop it on the desk at my usual dry-cleaners ... and the Dry Cleaner Employee says, "You do know this is not supposed to be dry-cleaned, right?"

She shows me the 'care' tag. Clearly imprinted thereon is the symbol that means "DO NOT DRY CLEAN."

Me: But ... I've brought it here before!

DCE: They probably just laundered it.

Me: Soo ... I can just throw this in the washing machine?? (Yes, I'm slow sometimes, LOL)

    DCE: Yep.

    Me: AND the dryer??

DCE: Yep. I'd keep the heat down, though.

She also said yes, it's a good idea to separate the shell and the interior, in order to get a better wash, and alas, she didn't have the part to fix the zipper. BUT she said I could get it at a nearby fabric store and she even explained how I could do the repair myself.

Yeeaaahh, I think I'll buy the part and take it back to them. I can see myself demolishing the entire zipper and having to pay to have it completely replaced. Besides, I'd like to think they get something in return for their employee's honesty!

Apparently in future I should also pay some attention to the 'care' labels on clothing ...
