Most people consider Ma'am to be appropriate for married women and women older than yourself. Miss is appropriate for single women, and those younger than yourself. The only words you said that I understood were "His", "Phone" and "Ya'll". The other 2 paragraphs worth was about as intelligible as a drunken Teletubby barkin' come on's at a Hooter's waitress.

I was working at the CD Store when I was 17 - 19. A little 13 year old called me "Tannie". That's Afrikaans for "Auntie". Generally, only venerable little old ladies get called Tannie. *sob*
Another thing that gets me is ppl calling me "darling" "lovie" "sweetheart" over the phone. Um, hi, yes, you've known me all of five seconds. I'm not a blood relative nor a girlfriend/spouse. You have no right to call me those names! The report button - not just for decoration

Kind of off topic, but...
When I used to work the call center I once had an upset man call me bitch. I was already in a bad mood and before I could think, I said "and don't you forget it!"
He hung up on me, and called in later that day to complain, saying that I cursed at him!? They pulled up the call and I never heard another thing about it.Woman are like guns, if you don't treat us right, we'll blow up in your face!

I get alot of this kind of thing, one of the accounts I take tech support for is xyz appliances (come out and fix your washer/dryer/fridge) they all have very nice laptops they don't know how to work. I either get "can I speak with tech support?" (I'm the only girl) or the honey babe hun kinda thing. Luckily since there are only 4 of us vs their 1500 the ones that need the most help tend to remember me and my name =)I used to be disgusted... Now I'm just amused

In my relatives, there are six of us whose names begin with An. So whenever we see them, I don't have a name.
And on the customers calling us things, I actually enjoy being called 'darling' (as long as it's in the right tone of voice), because I never get that anywhere else. But I had one lady who called me babe about five times... That started to get a bit creepy.

At work, I get "sir". I got this high pitch voice, shoulder lenght hair and enough curves to make a seismograph jealous, but I get called sir.
At home, mom confuses my and my stepdad's name everytime. She will call me Sheldon and call my dad Sharon.
and finally, with my grandma, she would pass the whole immediate family before getting to me, cutting off mid-name when she knew she had it wrong. "Liz-Muri-Fran-Mike-Suz-SHARON!" She did that for everyone.
Even poor Mike who was the only guy.
Now would be a good time to visit So Very Unofficial!

We have one salesman who keeps calling me buddy. He's the nice one so I don't really mind, but it sounds really weird to me. I'm young enough to be his daughter. It just sounds weird.
But I'll take Buddy over any cutsey girly thing any time.Curiously Lydean - curious interests of a curious person.

That must be a Grandma thing, because mine has done the same thing for as long as I've had a younger brother.Quoth Shironu-Akaineko View Postand finally, with my grandma, she would pass the whole immediate family before getting to me, cutting off mid-name when she knew she had it wrong. I was always "Ja-Mike", and he has always been "Mi-Jason."

Grandma is constantly calling me by the wrong name. Every now and then, she calls me by my uncle's name...and I'm a bit insulted. Why? Well, he's an assholeQuoth MadMike View PostThat must be a Grandma thing, because mine has done the same thing for as long as I've had a younger brother.
If it's not that, it's one of my brothers' names. I can't really blame her though--she's 90, and with 10 grandkids, it's sometimes difficult to keep us all straight

My mother-in-law would ALWAYS call us by each other's names... she had four kids and eight grandchildren. We were ALL interchangeable
It's one of the things I miss most about her. The other day, when I was dropping off my (now) ex-husband and the kids at his brother's for Easter dinner, I accidentally started to call him by our son's name. My oldest sister-in-law laughed and said "The torch has been passed!" and the whole family cracked up
